Velho
The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA), is a Finnish government agency responsible for the maintenance of Finland’s road, rail, and waterway systems.
Vektorio has been selected as part of a major FTIA ICT development project called Velho, implemented using the alliance model. Vektorio’s building information model (BIM) product will be integrated as part of the Velho system, which will be deployed in the traffic areas of FTIA and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The Velho system forms the backbone for information management of the FTIA’s traffic network. The Velho BIM Viewer provides a unified 3D view over maps, ground surfaces, roads, bridges, sewers, and any other visual data relevant to managing the infrastructure lifecycle.
– Vektorio’s team is professional and solution-oriented. The development work of the integration phase has been rapid, says Tarmo Savolainen, a leading BIM development manager of FTIA.
In addition to FTIA, the Velho alliance includes Ramboll Finland Oy, Sitowise Oy and Solita Oy. Vektorio was chosen as the supplier of the BIM-technology for the project.
– Vektorio has impressive expertise in BIM modelling and 3D graphics. They have been able to provide the solutions that the industry has been yearning for years, Savolainen says.
He thinks the Vektor-product is a powerful tool that offers an easy way to open 3D BIM models. The strengths of the product are its functionalities and ease of use. In addition, it is important for FTIA that Vektor runs in a browser, without the need to install software.
– The processing and viewing features of the models, especially those related to road and rail construction, are very good. With high-quality models from the outset, we can improve the information management process throughout the project lifecycle. This will allow us to build traffic networks better and more efficiently, Savolainen says.
Many subscriber organizations in different countries are now thinking about the same issues related to utilizing 3D BIM-models. With standardized form of road network and construction data, the Vektor product is easy to deploy and the benefits can be quickly verified.
Vektorio challenges the Industry Giants
Vektorio’s product has also attracted interest overseas, as the company’s technology is highly competitive alongside industry giants making billions of dollars in revenue.
Tarmo Savolainen has presented Finnish business and Vektorio’s product for example at a meeting of the Nordic network authorities.
– Finnish expertise in data modelling is at such a high level that other countries are now thinking about things that we already thought about a couple of years ago. However, there is a huge amount of development work done, especially in China, so Finns have to constantly improve in order to remain ahead of others, Savolainen says.
