Vektor.io contributes to Infrastructure Programme Helsinki – Advanced information model tool supports data-driven infrastructure development

01.12.2025

The Infrastructure Programme Helsinki has selected the Vektor.io software service as part of its project data management. Vektor.io enables the integration of the City of Helsinki’s planning and reference data with project materials, supporting comprehensive project management and data-driven decision-making.

The Infrastructure Programme is a large-scale, multi-phase alliance programme comprising three major light rail and urban development projects. Coordinating the various design and implementation phases, as well as numerous alliance partners, is crucial to the success of the programme. Vektor.io offers an efficient and visual solution to meet this challenge.

“The Infrastructure Programme Helsinki is an exceptionally broad and ambitious effort, combining several new light rail lines and a wide range of stakeholders. We’re proud to work alongside the client in building a digital workspace that brings together all project data and views. In doing so, Vektor.io supports data-driven decision-making and improves collaboration – while also contributing to the industry’s evolution towards more controlled and high-quality infrastructure delivery,” says Eero Lyytikäinen, Sales Director at Vektor.io.

“Vektor.io simplifies our everyday operations by bringing all necessary planning, survey, and reference data under one user-friendly interface. We can view both the Infrastructure Programme’s project plans and as-built data in the same environment, which improves quality assurance and enhances the systematic planning of infrastructure construction from start to finish,” says Jari Pelkonen, Surveying Manager of the Infrastructure Programme Helsinki alliance (YIT Infra).

“We have ambitious goals and a genuine intent to improve both our internal processes and the development of the entire industry. For example, we aim to promote model-based plan approvals and extend the use of models more broadly on-site. Achieving this requires the capacity for change and development – not only from us, but also from the tools we choose,” Jari concludes.

Information models supporting collaboration and decision-making

Vektor.io brings together all survey, planning and design input data for the Infrastructure Programme Helsinki’s large-scale light rail projects into a single, browser-based interface. This allows designers, builders, decision-makers and other stakeholders to examine alignments, street-level solutions and technical details in a unified, visual and real-time environment. Vektor.io also integrates seamlessly with the project’s document management systems, such as M-Files, ensuring smooth data flow and effective collaboration across all alliance participants.

Towards world-class and sustainable urban development

The Infrastructure Programme Helsinki aims to build sustainable and functional urban structures by improving public transport infrastructure. The programme includes three new light rail projects — West Light Rail, West Harbour Light Rail, and the Viikki–Malmi Light Rail — with activities extending through to 2033. These projects improve public transport efficiency and support the City of Helsinki’s climate neutrality goals. Vektor.io’s role supports this broader vision: enabling better collaboration, clearer communication, and more strategic and efficient project management — all of which are critical to the success of major infrastructure programmes..
