The Turku Tramway Alliance has made a significant decision by adopting the Vektor.io software service during the development phase of the project. This choice is a key part of the overall information management strategy for the tramway project. The Vektor.io solution enables the integration of Turku’s city data with project-specific information, supporting comprehensive project management.

The Turku Tramway Alliance has chosen Vektor.io as the information modeling tool for the project’s development phase. Vektor.io provides a versatile software solution that combines Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) data into a single, user-friendly browser-based platform.

Additionally, Vektor.io seamlessly integrates with the M-Files document management system, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration among all alliance stakeholders.

“We are grateful that the Turku Tramway Alliance has selected Vektor.io as the project tool. This allows us to support smooth operations between alliance partners and further develop our functionalities in collaboration with the project’s diverse stakeholders,” says Eero Lyytikäinen, Sales Director at Vektor.io.

About the Turku Tramway and Development Phase Plans

During the development phase of the Turku tramway project, a 12 km tramway is being planned from the harbor to Varissuo, with 20 stops along the route. The total construction cost of the tramway, estimated during the general planning phase, is €344 million.

The development phase includes drafting street plan designs, establishing principles for traffic control, calculating construction costs, and creating a construction schedule. Preparations for procuring tram vehicles will also take place during this phase.

In addition, necessary zoning changes will be made, and the broader impacts of the tramway will be assessed. These include evaluations of its effects on land use, municipal finances, and local businesses.

The Turku City Council is expected to decide on the tramway’s construction by the end of 2025. Preliminary estimates suggest that construction will take approximately five years, with operations anticipated to begin in the early 2030s.
