Meet the Team: Lead Product Engineer Ville Vaarala

09.04.2025

Ville Vaarala works at Vektor.io as a Lead Product Engineer and values the efficiency of a close-knit development team and the ability to solve customer problems. He works with a generalistic touch and is motivated by being able to understand and stay connected to the end users even as a software developer.

Ville has been with Vektor.io for a year and a half and was drawn to the company because of its ideal size, growth potential, and promising technology. The infrastructure sector, 3D-modeling, and data models were new to him at the time, but the opportunity to learn and take on new challenges made the role even more appealing.

Problem-solving is at the core of Ville’s work. As a software developer, he enjoys the challenge and the concrete nature of the field—seeing the direct impact of his work, such as watching new infrastructure take shape at a construction site.

Ville is an avid outdoor enthusiast, who enjoys hiking in forests and by the lakes or the sea. Recently, he has taken up acrylic painting as a creative outlet to balance his technical work.

A Generalist Approach

Ville’s daily work typically involves deep-focus coding as well as tasks related to lead product engineering and planning. He gets to work with the customer success manager and collaborate with sales on specifications. Ville’s days also include preparatory emails and a development team meeting every morning, which provides an opportunity to catch up with his remote colleagues.

He considers himself a generalist developer, skilled in UI development, backend, and cloud and software infrastructure. This broad expertise allows him to better understand customers and develop solutions that fit their needs.

“Having full-stack knowledge enables a customer-focused approach, as it allows me to see the big picture.” Ville states.

Delivering Solutions is the Best Part

Ville enjoys the agility of working in a small development team, even though he operates from a different city than some of his colleagues. Things move forward smoothly as reaching the right people or communication is never a challenge.

“We have a small, tight-knit team that gets things done,” Ville sums up. “There’s none of the sluggishness of a large corporation.”

What Ville appreciates most about his job is the ability to respond quickly to customer challenges and provide effective solutions. Receiving positive feedback from customers is always rewarding.

“Customers often say, ‘Things work in our product like nowhere else,’” Ville shares. “At trade shows, I can see the positive excitement on people’s faces when they see the demo. That’s the best part.”
